Political consultations with
South Africa
“Poland perceives South Africa as its priority partner
in Africa, both in bilateral terms and within the context of the strategic partnership
between South Africa and the EU,” said Undersecretary of State Katarzyna
Kacperczyk at the political consultations with the Republic of South Africa.
Deputy Foreign Minister of South Africa, Ebrahim I. Ebrahim, was a guest of the
Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Issues raised at the meeting included economic
cooperation between Poland and South Africa as well as security in Europe, the
Middle East peace process, situation in Syria, the Central African Republic and
South Sudan. Political consultations are taking place as part of the visit of
South Africa’s Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to Poland and are another
step towards deepened cooperation between Poland and South Africa. “Prime
Minister Donald Tusk’s visit to Africa last year as well as Kgalema Motlanthe's
visit to Warsaw prove that our bilateral relations are good. We would like the
next step to be mutual visits at the presidential level,” said Deputy Minister
Kacperczyk.
“Poland and South Africa have a long history of both
bilateral and multilateral cooperation. We have collaborated on numerous UN
initiatives, most notably on human rights. Also, our countries share common
history—the 20th anniversary of the end of Apartheid in South Africa
and the 25th anniversary of the first free parliamentary elections
in Poland. Based on those experiences, we can build a solid partnership in the
international arena,” concluded the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy.
