Poland-Angola consultations in Warsaw
“Polish companies have been present in Angola for several years now. We can see prospects for a continued development of trade cooperation, and we will be seeking ways to expand bilateral cooperation into new areas,” said MFA Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk, who played host to Angola’s Deputy Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto in Warsaw on 13 May.
The chief aim of the deputy ministers’ meeting was to review the common treaty base, and to discuss the chances of organizing and sending a mission of Polish businesspeople to Angola in 2014.
“Between
2012 and 2013 alone our trade more than doubled. This is true of both Polish exports
to Angola, and our imports,” emphasized Deputy Minister Kacperczyk. “A good
example of our cooperation is the construction of the Fishery and Marine
Sciences Academy in Namibe, a project carried out by a Polish company. We are
confident that we can help Polish companies become successful in the Angolan
market,” she concluded.
Moreover,
the diplomats talked about developments in the Great Lakes region, the conflict
in the Central African Republic, and the Ukraine crisis. Poland-Angola
cooperation within the UN also featured on the agenda.
Apart from
diplomats, the Angolan delegation comprised representatives of the fishery and
higher education ministries.
Poland-Angola
consultations are a result of the agreement the countries’ foreign ministries signed
in Luanda in 2013.
