Polish-Czech talks on EU
economic competiveness
“Energy prices in the EU should be the object of
Member States’ special concern not only today, but also after 2020. The pursuit
of emission targets and climate policy goals should not become a barrier to
EU’s development,” said Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk at the
opening of a seminar on the energy market and EU economic competiveness. The
event took place in the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Prague on 3 March.
The seminar was about the EU’s economy remaining
globally competitive. A meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the
Czech Republic to discuss the integration of the gas market of the Visegrad
Group (V4) was held on the sidelines of the seminar.
Poland’s deputy chief of diplomacy also held
consultations in the Czech Foreign Ministry where she met with Jaroslav
Kurfürst, Director General of the European Countries Section. They discussed
the 2030 framework for climate and energy policies and prospects for
diversifying the Polish and Czech energy mix, specifically with extracted shale
gas and nuclear energy. The talks also focused on the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP) now negotiated by the EU and US diplomacies.
Deputy Minister Kacperczyk also met with
representatives of the Czech downstream oil group Unipetrol in which PKN Orlen
holds a 62.99% stake.
