Foreign ministers of Poland and Luxembourg on EU future
On 8 May, foreign ministers of Poland and Luxembourg, Radosław Sikorski and Jean Asselborn, discussed the future of the European Union ahead of the upcoming elections to the European Parliament. In Poland, Luxembourg’s top diplomat is accompanying Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, who are paying their first official visit to our country.
The ministers talked about the political and institutional future of the EU in the context of the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament. “Before naming candidates for the positions of presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, EU member states should agree on a future shape of the Union,” said Minister Sikorski.
The chiefs of diplomacy also looked at the situation in Ukraine, and possible ramifications of the Russian policy. Minister Sikorski underscored that “further actions by Russia to destabilize Ukraine will have far-reaching consequences for relations between the EU and its member states, and Russia.”
Today, President Bronisław Komorowski and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg inaugurated the Poland-Luxembourg Economic and Financial Forum. Minister Asselborn informed the Polish foreign minister that Luxembourg companies from the logistics, aerospace and financial services sectors are interested in fostering cooperation with their Polish partners.
