Sikorski in Paris for talks about Ukraine, PAP
Polish Foreign Ministry informed PAP that on Wednesday morning Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski went to Paris for an informal meeting on Ukraine. The meeting will be attended by Germany, France, United States and Russia.
MFA Press Spokesman Marcin Wojciechowski told PAP that Sikorski will participate in negotiations on “resolving the conflict in Ukraine.” “The main session is due to begin at 3:30 pm at the French MFA,” said Wojciechowski.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, as well as the OSCE, the UN and EU,” Deputy Director of the Polish MFA Press Office Rafał Sobczak told PAP.
Also on Wednesday, Foreign Ministers of the United States, Russia and Ukraine John Kerry, Sergey Lavrov and Andrii Deshchytsia will hold talks in the French capital. Lavrov and Kerry are visiting Paris for a conference on Lebanon that was planned earlier. Before the meeting, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said that EU leaders could decide on sanctions against Russia if there is no de-escalation of conflict.
“Let's start to initiate the path of dialogue, but at the same time on Thursday there is an EU summit and sanctions [against Russia] could be voted if there is no de-escalation of conflict. I expect and hope that Russia will tell us today that there is a prospect for dialogue with the contact group,” Fabius told a French TV station. He also stressed that measures imposed by the EU could include both financial sanctions and restrictions on visas and assets. (PAP)
