Minister Sikorski attends
meeting on Ukraine crisis in Paris
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has taken part in a
meeting organised to find a solution to the Ukraine crisis. The talks took
place in the French foreign ministry in Paris on Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting was attended by chiefs of diplomacy from
the Weimar Triangle countries (Poland, France, Germany), the UK and Italy, High
Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine
Ashton, the Swiss chairmanship of the OSCE, and a UN representative. Parallel
talks were held in Paris by US Secretary of State John Kerry, Russia’s top
diplomat Sergey Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia.
The talks focused on the current situation in Ukraine
and ways of resolving the conflict, including chances of starting a dialogue
between the Ukrainian and Russian authorities at the level of foreign
ministers. The Russian side did not agree to engage in such talks, which were
ultimately held through intermediaries.
The EU participants of the meeting shared information
and coordinated their positions ahead of the European Council of heads of state
and government that will meet in Brussels on Thursday to discuss Ukraine. They
also announced that intensive measures will be continued to settle the Ukraine
crisis.
