Deputy Minister Winid and
OSCE Secretary General discuss Ukraine
“Poland has been following the events in Ukraine with
concern, but also with hope. We believe that the OSCE should play a significant
role in stabilising the situation,” said Undersecretary of State Bogusław Winid
during a meeting with the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannieri. The meeting
took place in Warsaw on 28 February.
Secretary Zannieri came to Warsaw for consultations
about the situation in Ukraine and the possible involvement of the OSCE in this
country. The possibility of setting up a Contact Group tasked with coordinating
international support for Ukraine was discussed. “In the long-term perspective,
the OSCE should support the Ukrainian society in building a modern state based
on the principles of democracy, the rule of law and respect for civil
liberties,” appealed the deputy chief of Poland’s diplomacy. Deputy Minister
Winid also expressed Poland’s full support for the efforts undertaken by
Switzerland, the current Chair of the OSCE.
